This beautifully restored Cortijo was a wonderful place to stay over the New Year period. My husband and I stayed for 2 nights and had a fantastic time. David, the Manager, is extremely welcoming and friendly and worked very hard to ensure that we enjoyed our time at the hotel. In fact all the staff are warm and friendly and make what I am sure is very hard work appear effortless.
The food at the hotel is some of the best food I have eaten in Spain and my congratulations to the Chef for providing such a fabulous seven course meal for New Year's eve with each course being as delightful as the last.
The accommodation is lovely and the attention to detail throughout the whole hotel is just great. The sitting room with the huge fireplace is very comfortable, beautifully decorated and certainly encourages you to linger. We had a lovely room overlooking the internal courtyard and fountain with a great a view down to the olive groves and the mountains beyond. The bed was huge and comfy and we had a flat flat screen TV and a basket of fruit to munch our way through whilst being amazed at the number of satellite channels (we stopped counting at 1500!). The grounds were great to wander around and the pool area is really inviting.
During our stay I also booked a massage with the resident therapist. Gonzolo, a master craftsman in my book, gave me one of the best massages I have had in a very long time. His lovely wife also carried out Reiki on me during the course of the treatment, a definite bonus.
The whole experience was marvellous and we would love the opportunity to return again, as I am sure each season would provide guests with an equally lovely but different experience. My husband and I wholeheartedly recommend this hotel and want to say a big thank you to David and his team and the Owners, David (2)! and Alan for all the fun and laughter we had during our stay.
We booked our stay using the "anamazinghotel.com" website who were extremely helpful and this hotel in our opinion deserves to be listed as amazing!
"The most perfect holiday"
January, 2009

Thank you most sincerely for giving us such a fantastic time on the christmas. I really enjoyed and am so glad we found the hotel.
I must say that it ticked all the boxes for me from its location, the ambience, the rooms, food etc etc, it made the most perfect holiday - thank you.
"12 out of 10" Having stayed at 7 of the 10 top hotels in the world and having 10 years experience working in the spa industry it takes a lot to impress me in a hotel so when it came to organising my honeymoon after my Civil Partnership I knew it would have to be a very special place to fit the bill.
Having looked at all the big multi-national groups from four-seasons to orient express and everything in between I was at a loss of how to make our event special. Browsing through some smaller independent hotels I came upon a new Andalusian hotel, El Cortijo La Prensa almost by mistake and was immediately taken by both the hotel and the philosophies it is managed by. I booked almost straight away after a quick email to ask a few questions and to make sure my requests could be accommodated (which they all were). The price was a quarter of my original budget – Bonus!
Flying into Malaga we picked up a hire car and drove the hour or so into the hills and olive groves of the Sierras Subbetica National Park. Arriving at El Cortijo is a real surprise; subtle lighting and wandering pathways gave it a truly romantic aura. We were met at the top of the path by David the manager who immediately made us feel like we had arrived home. We were offered refreshments and a meal (fantastic as we arrived past 11pm) and were shown to our room, the Balcony Suite, on the first floor.
Walking into the lounge area I was firstly taken by the fresh flowers, fresh fruit and iced Cava waiting for us, secondly the décor of the room showed that the renovations in the hotel had been done to accentuate the original building style while incorporating all the modern conveniences one could want. Dark wood furniture with light walls and tiles gave an airy yet truly homely feeling; the bathroom was a dream of glass, marble and under-floor heating; the bedroom was by far the best room with a huge four poster bed, more beautiful furniture, LCD TV, Satellite and DVD player. More personal touches were the luxurious bathrobes and fresh roses on the pillows.
Later in our holiday we asked to see the other 11 rooms and were amazed to see that the level of accommodation in our suite was repeated in every room with each having its own distinctive style.
Elsewhere in the hotel is a wonderful Greco-roman style swimming pool and Jacuzzi in flower filled sunbathing areas, the gardens, again beautifully planted, blend perfectly with the olive tree clad hills. There is also a gym if you are feeling more energetic than we were.
The restaurant, both the inside more formal one and the outside terrace served fantastic local food, freshly cooked by an amazing chef, who asked us each morning what we would like for our evening meal. Breakfasts, while continental boasted a huge array of food, again freshly prepared. Breakfast is included and all other food & drink is exceptional value. Mitzi’s Bar is a wonderfully informal place for everyone to gather and compare notes on the local area or to be given some great advice on sightseeing in Grenada Cordoba by the local Spanish staff.
El Cortijo truly is a hidden gem, where you will find a family style welcome along with the conscientious service that you often don’t even find nowadays in a 5 star hotel.
Miss this hotel at your peril; it’s a definite 12 out of 10.
"It was absolutely fantastic"
Just to let you know we have arrived back home to the glorious rain and want to thank you once again for a very restful holiday. It was absolutely fantastic. Many thanks and see you in May.
"An impressively high-quality luxury retreat”
September 2008
My partner and I spent four nights at El Cortijo in late September and were struck from the start by the great care that has been taken to make this a beautiful place to relax. A very comfortable, spacious room, and superb public areas – particularly the swimming pool area; and excellent (and very rich) dinners. We particularly appreciated the friendly welcome from the manager David and his team. The location is pretty remote, but definitely worth the hour or so’s drive up from Malaga – the mountain scenery in the Subbetica is stunning. Overall, excellent value for money.
"LOVED THIS PLACE"
October 2008
El Cortijo La Prensa is one of those hidden gems that will succeed by word of mouth. It is a fully restored farmhouse in rural Andalusia, although I am guessing the current hotel is FAR more grand than the original house. It has twelve bedrooms - each one unique in terms of decor. The rooms are large, with huge beds and great bathrooms. The materials used in the construction include wonderful tiles (with heated floors), and lots of wood everywhere. Light fixtures are beautiful and amazing. The showers are large, and bathroom amenities great. Each room has a flat screen TV and DVD player.
The hotel is built around a central courtyard, with lovely views. The building is set among olive groves, in a valley, with extensive grounds. There are no other buildings nearby, so it is beautifully peaceful. A gorgeous swimming pool (surrounded by high walls for seclusion) leads to a clothing optional private area with a sunken Jacuzzi that can fit about eight adults.
The public areas are beautifully decorated - a nice bar in the courtyard, a snug sitting room (with fireplace for cool evenings), and a lovely dining room. Tables and chairs are plentiful and attractive.
The staff is welcoming and extremely friendly. What adds to the charm of this property is the great restaurant. The menu is extensive and varied, and the food beautifully presented and delicious. A decent selection of wines accompanies the menu.
Overall, I would not hesitate to recommend this property. It is absolutely perfect for anyone seeking a "get away from it all" vacation in great comfort, surrounded by beauty and rural tranquility. There is no reason to leave the property - everything is taken care of.
In sum - a GREAT place, a real gem!
